Thank You, Shelly Mandell of NOW, for Endorsing Palin…
By Hillary Taft - Sunday, October 5th, 2008
…and BOO HISS to the rest of NOW for endorsing Obama. Shelly Mandell, you are my hero for bucking the far left radical lunatics at NOW and NARAL who somehow think that Obama is a friend of women! I’ll be surprised if you keep your job at NOW, but you have a permanent spot in my heart for your brave action in supporting Sarah Palin! And you are now making it easier for other high profile feminists to support Palin. From Gretawire:
I am hearing rumblings…apparently the endorsement of Governor Palin (and Senator McCain) by LA’s President of NOW Shelly Mandel is making it ’safe’ for other high profile feminists to endorse McCain/Palin. The thinking is twofold – one; that it is time for a woman and two; that Governor Palin wants to work across party lines… This is a giant change in politics…
What do you think about this?
This is so important. I have spoken to quite a few Democratic women who are upset about Obama and don’t like him, but feel guilty voting Republican. With women like Mandell supporting Palin, it gives permission and a reason for many disaffected female Democrats to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

I was there and saw this. God bless Shelly Mandell. It was AMAZING. And, yes, hopefully this paves the way for people to tell Gloria Steinem that she’s an old tired relic and it’s time to support women like Palin who embody what a successful woman should be. I am wild about Palin. That rally in CA was INSANE. The audience loved her and the energy she exudes is rare in a politician. I am so happy. Please ladies, think about what was done to Hillary and take your lives and dignity back. Palin is a wonder to behold and I believe will be POTUS some day.

If Obama wins, not only will women be shut out of the Presidency and Vice Presidency for the next four years, but the Obama cult’s campaigns of total personal destruction by sexualized mudslinging against Hillary Clinton and Palin will be, in their eyes at least, vindicated and legitimized — and any future female candidate for such office will expect to face the same. Only those with skins to thick as to be worthy of a hippopotamus will dare make the attempt, especially since it’s been made clear that even their children are considered fair game.
That’s a big part of what’s at stake here. Even if there were nothing else wrong with Obama, it would be a disaster if the tactics his followers have used against Clinton and Palin were allowed to emerge victorious. Mandell apparently realizes that. A lot of the rest of NOW’s leadership apparently doesn’t.

A SPECIAL NOTE TO THE MISGUIDED, LOST AND APPARENTLY YOUNG WOMEN WHO OPPOSE PALIN:
Your sexist comments against Palin are not welcome on this blog.
Every time you say that Palin is “unqualified” or “dimwitted,” you hurt ALL women and make it harder for women to succeed in politics, business and life.
Stop spreading this ridiculous meme (put out by the Obama underground campaign) to make Palin out to be some dumb trophy.
She is MORE THAN QUALIFIED due to her very real record in Alaska.
Don’t point me to some lame Katie Couric interview to say that she’s “dumb.” Failing a “gotcha” question or not knowing all the specific legislative items McCain brought to the table in the past 40 years has NO bearing on her overall intelligence or competence.
Calling Palin a “trophy” is insulting all attractive women, suggesting they are dumb bimbos who shouldn’t hold high office.
To women who spread these sexist lies and distortions: SHAME ON YOU!
But know that when your comment is rejected, it’s because what you are saying about Palin is the female equivalent of using the “n” word against Obama.
I will not tolerate such sexist slurs here. Thank you.

Thank you Shelly!!! As a 52 year old mom of a teenage daughter, I’m so happy to see someone like Sarah Palin that is down to earth, can stand her ground with any man and brings a refreshing change to politics. I was in Hollywood Sept. 5th for the Stand Up 2 Cancer Telethon, I travelled from Houston to see a dear friend of mine who is involved. After we all went back to the hotel to hear wait for the results to come in, I was in shock to hear her sisters, other women, put down Sarah as “Sarah Plain and Tall,” “what a fool she is.” I didn’t say anything, as I’m a conservative, but told my friend I was totally disgusted that we as women/sisters are lowering ourselves to be so mean. I like when people say, “well she’s only been a Governor…do they forget Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush…obviously they were able to handle it. No matter whether you are a Dem or Rep…you got to like her “hutpah” (sorry I’m not Jewish so not sure how to spell, but you get the idea). Thank you Shelly again for just doing something that is right and not ‘policitcally” correct.

You go shelly, I am tired of the way woman are being dismissed and dissed in this country. Obama thinks women should be in the home catering to their men. Well those days are over. Hillary got cheated so i am determined that sarah will get my vote. After Hillary her being dissed I changed from dem. to indep. Obama showed his contempt when he didn’t even consider to vent Hillary for vp.

It is important to remember that as women we support each other, and not to turn our backs on each other. Political differences aside. Not so very long ago we were not allowed the right to vote. To have a woman on the tickett is a wonderful thing, but also a long time comming. Since women make up 1/2 the population, we should make up 1/2 of the presidents or vice presidents. But we don’t. Whether we’re working women, stay at home women, consevative ,or liberal, we are women and we need to support each other, and not tear each other down. If you’re a woman then realize that Sara Palins advancement is your advancement. Thank You Shelly for seeing the bigger future for women picture.

Just want everyone to know I have stopped watching all of the so-called journalists on CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC. I only watch Fox News now as I am tired of everyone putting Sarah Palin down. SHE is running for Vice-President, NOT President, yet she has more experience to be in charge, by being a Mayor and Governor, than Obama and Biden put together. You can watch those stations five minutes and see how biased the reporters are! I always liked Charlie Gibson until he treated Sarah Palin so ugly when he interviewed her. HE made me SICK! The same thing with Katie (know-it-all) Couric – the stupid questions she kept asking and her acting so righteous. I hope CBS sees what a mistake they made when they paid big money to get her from NBC. I plan to support the McCain-Palin ticket and I am proud to do so.

Right on, sisters! Shelly Mandell’s words surprised and tickled me too. I hope she doesn’t lose her position because of her courage to speak her mind, although I bet her hate mail is particulary vitriolic right now.
We can all agree to disagree about various political, social or religious points of view, but isn’t respecting each other and honoring the achievements of women what it’s all about?
Everybody seems to love to tear a strong woman down. It is especially ugly and sad to see liberal women feminists (of which I consider myself one) tearing down a talented woman who has figured out how to have a powerful job and creatively share the family’s child-rearing with her husband. Isn’t that a feminist?
Go ahead and criticize Sarah Palin’s political philosophy if you disagree with it, but be careful about the source of your criticism and what you are really doing. Just like there are Democrats in name only, there seem to be a lot of feminists in name only too.
