The Most Horrible Palin Stereotype I’ve Seen So Far

By Hillary Taft - Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I’m very sorry I caught this after the election, but I believe it is still worth your time to write a letter of complaint. In browsing the Internet, I accidentally stumbled upon this blog post by Kathlyn Hendricks, a leading new age relationship expert. In it she gushes over Obama’s apparently amazing marriage while slamming Cindy McCain’s money (apparently clueless that Cindy McCain is a humanitarian and philanthropist and Obama has been accused of going on the “down low”).

What really blew my mind was her extremely classist, insulting characterization of Sarah Palin and her family. Here’s what she said:

President Palin would be desperately trying to comprehend and handle business during one of the most trying times in our nation’s history, while taking care of a special needs baby, riding herd on pregnant teenagers, foul-mouthed hockey-jock son-in-laws and other household dramas. On the brighter side, a Palin White House would provide one exciting possibility for our increasingly tabloid-obsessed culture: the perfect capstone for Jerry Springer’s career! He would make an ideal Chief of Staff or Sergeant-At-Arms, charged with keeping the gun-totin’, hockey-stick-wielding clan from wrecking the furniture (and each other) or blowing away a moose for sport on the White House lawn.

Well, gosh darn, why don’t you just paint them as toothless rednecks who can’t read or write, or in-breeders who marry their cousins? Because that’d be just as accurate!

Kathlyn Hendricks: SHAME ON YOU! Shame on you for letting your blind partisanship and upper class elitism blind you to the obvious love in the Palin family! Shame on you for equating them with a Jerry Springer family! Shame on you for projecting positive attributes to the Obamas while ignoring the wonderful love in the McCain family! Shame on you for not noticing that the McCains had adopted a third world child, one with dark skin color, might I add, and instead trying to paint them as shallow and materialistic!

I was absolutely horrified by this post of hers. No self-proclaimed spiritual teacher should be spreading such hatred of people simply because they aren’t Democrats. Furthermore, there’s an inherent sexist bias in this commentary, suggesting that Palin can’t handle being a mom and president at the same time.

ACTION STEPS TO TAKE:

1. Contact the Hendricks Institute and request that she print an apology on her blog:

2. Boycott Hendricks products and services until an apology is posted.

3. Share this story with others and spread the word.

We should not let this type of classism and sexism stand, especially by spiritual teachers who are supposed to be preaching love and should know better.

PS. It appears that Palin is possibly positioning herself for a run in 2012 with the launch of SarahPAC. Stay tuned…

spirituality and politics do not mix.

Sarah Palin is wonderful and did not deserve Ms Hendricks giving her a dose of Ms Hendricks sad sad spiritual illness.

Governor Palin is an amazing Wife, Mother and a Woman for our time that has everyones best interest at heart. She is a great leader and she has done so much for Alaska and its citizens that we are all thankful to her for showing leadership on many issues near to Americans hearts.

To have a person who claims to be “spiritual” and a group like this say the foul mouthed evil things like Kathlyn Hendricks has published is down right wrong in my eyes and I would question heavily the Hendricks Institutes spiritual health for assosiating with this message. This institute in my opinion needs immediate surgery for a spiritual sickness. How sad people follow people like her who pretend to be more well.

Why am I not surprised to read Ms. Hendricks’ scathing comments about Sarah Palin and other Republican women? It’s open season on conservative woman: sexist and degrading comments are justified and encouraged. Yes, liberal women do know how to hunt, and they indulge in a deep, callous hatred of their prey.

How sad that an institute which promises to promote “A world in which all of us live in harmony with our organic spiritual natures, and where the honoring of that spiritual nature forms the basis for community and society” engages in snide party politics, an issue which clearly divides people – one human being from another – by nearly fifty/fifty as an average over the past couple of decades.

It may benefit Ms. Hendricks to look inside of herself, especially if she espouses to “creat[e] a worldwide community of people with whom [she] can explore new heights of love, creativity, and well-being.”

What Ms. Hendricks lacks in intelligence and insight, she clearly makes up for in venom. Throw that dog a juicy bone.

I’ve talked to a few people who have problems with a potential woman president. One person recently said he wasn’t sure about the idea because “what if it’s her time of the month?” Another person said “what about the kids?” or something like that. We are in a society of equal partnership so whats wrong with a stay at home dad? I know a few. Also why does Palin’s positive spirituality get hammered but Obama’s negative radical pastor and church get a pass?

    I just caught this post.

It is shameful how Palin haters run off at the mouth. Anyone think that Palin Presidency would be hurling our economy over a cliff with a $1.4 trillion “stimulus” plan? Neither do I.
