I agree with you. I am always about having the best people in government, from whatever party (which is why I wanted a Clinton-Romney matchup last election), and am shocked by the disaster that Obama and his administration are inflicting on our nation. I know Bush left things a mess, but Obama has taken that mess and through his agenda come darn close to destroying America forever (the debt, the permenant increases in spending, the healthcare bill, bad foreign policy decisions, etc).

What happened to moderation? What happened to Clinton- how did she become so marginalized in the Democratic party? How did the Democrats get taken over by Obama? This is stunning and shocking- even when the Republicans were at their most partisan, they couldn't hope to reach the partisanship of the Democrats today. What a change a year has made.

Long lost Carolyn Criss here catching up with the real world. (blogs are real world, aren't they?) I can attest to the fact that not all tea party participants and town hall dissenters are Republicans. A lot of libertarians and free thinkers there as well. You should definitely join us ;)

Hi, I have seen you post on NQ many times but never clicked on your name. I see we have similar ideals.
While I am not necessarily "pro-abortion", I am for a person to have the rights to his or her own body. I think that this is a premise that needs to be further explored as there are going to be many instances in decades to come when this is in question. Even now, there are bills on the books that pretty much dictate control over our bodies. Such as the bill that was passed last year to garner DNA from newborns.
There are instances of men, as well, who have come under fire for trying to lay claim to their own bodies. For example, when does a company one works for have claim? Sure, we want a drug free environment but what about a cancer free one? That's not the future - that's now! There have been instances of companies who have been sued by employees for illegally procuring DNA in the pursuit of pre-determining if the employees are pre-disposed to any ailments.
That is the "biggy" that I wish the GOP would get over and realize that they are should still be about less govt which should include one's body.

I warned people of most of this before it happened. And it would have been only slightly different under McNasty.

I wish I could agree with the title that this phenomenon is new. Unfortunately as we all recall the sexism was licensed by the left as a MO during the last Democratic primary season. They have just branched out in their blatant sexism, making other forms of it (other targets) fair game.

I remember growing up when the women's liberation movement began in the 60s. Well, it started much sooner but you know what I mean. Women fought to be accepted as equals. Nowadays, even women are attacking other women, diminishing their worth as men did so prominently once before. It's like the whole damned world has gone backwards and mad.

I agree that it si shocking to read some of the comments that people made about this innocent individual. It doesn't matter what she was saying - what matters is that people are so cruel and say such horrible things turning her into a piece of meat just because she stated her opinion? It makes me sick to see how women are treated in this country - ALL women - there is no such thing as bipartisan when it comes to the objectification and misogyny rampant in this country. Conservative, liberal, it doesn't matter - we are all treated like crap. Read "Empire of Illusion" by Chris Hedges it is the best non-partisan book I've read in ages about the decline and fall of the USA. He takes on all the illusions - even Obama. What he writes about women though is what really got to me in chapter two. Wow.

The amount of hate out there right now is unbelievable and it's still escalating and not only on the internet. Usually when the economy is bad it does bring out the worst in people, but this is beyond that. Sexism, racism (including reverse racism), agism, classim, etc., etc. is on the rise. No one is safe. Even on sites that say that everyone is welcome - at some point some group is going to get bashed and driven off. It seems hate is the new, shiny toy and it's okay to destroy someone's life and cheer for their misery. That's not saying much for our society right now and sites that allow hatred to flourish to the point where a citizen's life is destroyed are guilty of promoting the hatred and should be sued.

I haven't been to HuffPo in a year. Fratboy/high school politics just make me shake my head and wonder about the parents.

I'm glad to see she's not backing down. She's the only role model we have for little girls showing that a woman can become Governor, be selected for VP, can stand up for her family and principles (whether we agree with them all or not), and hopefully running for President in 2012.

It's very upsetting to watch Hillary get sidelined because she's the other role model that our young girls need to see to show what women can do!

Without strong role models - politics, etc. aside - our younger generation of girls are NOT going to be able to dream big. They'll think their place is being submissive to their male counterparts and not equal partners. It's not only the Republicans now who seem to want to backtrack women back to being the dutiful wife, it's coming out of the Democrats too. There's a lost generation of young women out there right now that appear to be supporting it without realizing it's to their detriment and that of their daughters/granddaughters.

Sarah Palin's marriage appears to be an equal partnership and he doesn't appear to be threatened by her successes. From all appearances he appears to be the man we women dream of and never seem able to find because too many men make relationships into competitions and power struggles.

I wish Sarah Palin well in whatever she does as I also wish Hillary Clinton well in whatever she plans to do in the future. (I just wish Hillary would tell Obama to take the SOS job and shove it!)
